- Microsoft Windows is a group of several proprietary graphical operating system families, all of which are developed and marketed by Microsoft. Each family caters to a certain sector of the computing industry.
- On November 20, 1985, Microsoft launched the first version Windows 1.0.
- Bill Gates first launched Windows 1.0 in the year 1983. Windows 1.0 had a 16-bit color interface and was less than 1MB in size. 256 KB of RAM was required to run it. However, people had to wait another 2 years to buy Windows 1.0. Finally, on 20 November 1985, this software was made available to the general users.
- Windows 1.0 included programs such as MS DOS File Management, Paint, Notepad, Calculator, Calendar, Card File, Clock, Windows Writer. Programs in Windows 1.0 required 256 KB of RAM as well as a double-sided floppy disk drive, graphics adapter card, and 512 kilobytes of hard disk to function.

This operating system was first given the codename of 'Interface Manager', but was finally named 'Windows'. It was named Windows because of the windows box that popped up on the user's screen. Drop down menus, scroll bars, icons and dialog boxes made learning and using programs easier.

1.Window 1.0
In 1985, Microsoft corporation released Microsoft Window which was an operation system based on GUI and multitasking for IMB computer.
2.Window 2.0
In 1987, window 2.0 was released and had some key program support. Early versions of Word and Excel were used as windows interface.
3.Window 3.0
It was released in 1990, a complete operating system. It had File Management System, Print Manager and Control Panel, Easy Access and Control to all the files on hard disk due to its file manager. It was a great success for Microsoft Corporation.
4.Window 3.11
It was the improved version of window 3.0 . It was supported multimedia capabilities, object linking, fonts etc.
5.Window 3.11 NT
This operating system was very powerful and as well as more sophisticated OS for engineers and business person.
6.Window 95
It has internet Explorer and become a complete portal to the web. It become the introduction to windows and world of computers for a large number of people. It has a start button and taskbar on the desktop which remains continue in advanced versions of windows.
7.Window 98
It was more stability and upgradation which supported multiple monitor, large file partitions, web TV, fat 32 file system.
8.Window 2000
It was released in 2000. It was the first window that automatically upgrades over internet and upgraded to networking line of windows.
9.Window Millennium Edition
This was the window edition which is known as mistake edition. Its GUI feature is more advanced as compared to window 98 or window 2000.
10.Window XP
It was released in 2001 and much more improved in many areas such as security, speed, stability, file management etc. It was merged with NT architecture with interface of 95/98/2001/ME versions of windows. Its operating system is more accessible to less experienced users.
11.Window Vista
It was released in 2006. It has feature such as user control account for excellent purpose. It has improved GUI with stick animations and transparencies.

In today's days, it is a very popular OS for computers and laptops or PCs. Some of the new features of Window 7 are advancements in touch, speech and handwriting recognition, support for virtual hard disks, support for additional file formats, improved performance on multi-core processors and improved boot performance. Window 7 support 64-bits PCs.
12.Window 8
It is developed as part of the Windows NT family of OS and released for general availability on 26 October 2012. On 17 October 2013, Microsoft released Windows 8.1 . It addresses some aspects of Windows 8 that were criticized by reviewers and early adopters and incorporates additional improvements.
13.Window 10
This operating system was released on 29 June 2015, it is familiar and easy to use, with lots of similarities to Windows 7 including the Start menu. It has built-in security to help keep you safe and is designed to work with software and hardware you already have.
14.Window 11
This is the most recent version of Windows for PCs and tablets is Windows 11, version 21H2. The most recent version for embedded devices is Windows 10, version 21H1. The latest version of Windows 10 is the November 2021 Update. which was released on November 16, 2021. This update was codenamed “21H2” during its development process, as it was released in the second half of 2021. Its final build number is 19044.
The most recent version for server computers is Windows Server 2022, version 21H2. A specialized version of Windows also runs on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S video game consoles.
