My dear students and friends, in today's blog we will learn about What is topology and different types of topology? So let's know -
What is topology and different types of topology?
Arrangement of two or more computers in a computer network in such a way that they can exchange data or information with each other. Therefore, the geometrical arrangement of a computer network is called network topology.
Computers are also called nodes in network topology.
In network topology, computers are arranged in different ways. Which are of the following types -
Types of Network Topology):-
1. Bus Topology
2. Star Topology
3. Ring Topology
4. Mesh Topology
5. Hybrid Topology
6. Tree Topology
1. Bus Topology:-
Under this topology, all the computers are arranged in a sequence i.e. in the same order by a single cable i.e. wire and the computers connected first and last are connected with terminals.
Organizing this topology seems to be quite easy and also low cost.
The main advantage of this topology is follows:-
1. It is easy to connect a device to the network.
2. It is cheaper than other network topology.
3. The failure of one station does not affect the rest of the network.
4. Extensions can be made to the network.
5. Multiple peripherals can be supported through bus topology.
etc.
The biggest disadvantage of this topology is that if one computer fails, the data transfer is not known and at the same time it is very difficult to arrange another computer in place of the damaged computer.
2. Star Topology:-
Under this topology, all the computers are connected through a distribution center ie HUB. In this topology all the computers are not interconnected with each other. In this, all the computers are controlled or managed or data or information is exchanged through the HUB itself.
This topology is easy to set up and costs a bit more than the bus topology and at the same time its biggest advantage is that even if one computer fails, there is no effect on the network.
The biggest disadvantage of this topology is that if for some reason the bus HUB fails or fails, then the entire network system will be destroyed i.e. fail.
3. Ring Topology:-
In this topology, all the computers are arranged in the form of a circular or circular shape. In this, one computer is connected to any other two computers.
4. Mesh Topology :-
In this topology all the computers are not connected to any central connection i.e. HUB. In this, each computer is connected to at least one other computer so that each computer is able to send and receive messages to other computers.
Even if a computer fails, there is no effect on the network because no type of HUB is used in it. In this, the damaged computer can be easily traced and the exchange of data or information never stops.
It also takes a lot of money to organize this topology. It is very difficult to organize it.
5. Hybrid Topology:-
This topology is a mixture of different types of topology including bus topology, star topology, ring topology, mesh topology. This topology is used to make a big network. Nowadays it is being used in every single field. Such as colleges, school research organizations, multinational companies etc.
Any type of traffic coming in the network can be handled very easily and any type of error can be found easily. Also it is very reliable.
It is of different types -
1. Star-bus Hybrid Topology
2. Star-ring Hybrid Topology
3. Star-bus Hybrid Topology etc.
6. Tree Topology :-
Tree topology is a type of topology because we know that a tree has many branches and leaves. So in this topology there are different types of topology like bus topology, star topology, ring topology etc branches and all computers are like leaves. Thus we can call hybrid topology as tree topology.
